      Content: Si bien el Distrito de San Borja fue creado el 1 de junio de 1983, la historia que envuelve sus calles data de siglos atrás. En la etapa del Intermedio Tardío, aproximadamente entre los años 1100 y 1450 d.C., estas fértiles tierras fueron ocupadas el Señorío Ichma o Ychima que significa “color de fruto que nace en capullo”, el cual pertenecía a la Cultura Lima. En una de sus investigaciones, la destacada historiadora María Rostorowski, señala que este señorío estaba conformado por habitantes del valle de Lima y de Pachacamac, quienes pertenecían a un mismo curaca pero, sin embargo, sostenían numerosos enfrentamientos étnicos por la necesidad de control y expansión territorial. Durante el período Inca, hubo un gran crecimiento poblacional, mucha productividad de la tierra y un sistema religioso que permitía organizar el conocimiento adquirido durante generaciones. Asimismo, una casta se dedicaba a rendir culto a las distintas huacas existentes; Ichma había construido 17 huacas, por esa razón Ichma fue una cultura de gran prestigio. En la época de la conquista, los españoles destruyeron muchas de las huacas en busca de tesoros escondidos. Actualmente, solo quedan dos de ellas, la Huaca San Borja y el Complejo Arqueológico Limatambo. Cuando se fundó la ciudad de Lima, se repartió el territorio entre los conquistadores; a uno de ellos, Antonio Picado, secretario de Francisco Pizarro, se le otorgó la posteriormente conocida como “Hacienda San Borja”, lugar donde se cultivaba maíz, papa, cebada, olluco y alfalfa. Después de numerosas sucesiones y traspasos de propiedad, en 1568 la administración llegó a la Orden Jesuita. Posteriormente a la expulsión de los jesuitas, la propiedad cambió constantemente de dueño. En 1962, el terreno pertenecía a una acomodada familia que lo adjudicó para la construcción de una parroquia y su respectivo colegio. En ese tiempo, San Borja pertenecía a la jurisdicción del Distrito de Surquillo, pero la Municipalidad no se daba abasto para atender las necesidades de este creciente sector. Esto motivó la creación del Frente Cívico de Defensa de San Borja cuyos miembros suscribieron un memorial por iniciativa del entonces Senador de la República, Javier Alva Orlandini. Así, la ley No 23604 autorizó la creación del Distrito de San Borja en 1983.
